Hama massacre

Have you ever wondered how the Islamic extremist group “Hamas” got its name?

Hama is a city in Syria located about 100 miles north of the capital, Damascus. On February 2, 1982 the Syrian army was tasked with putting down a rebellion by Muslim Brotherhood extremists. The city of Hama was shelled so intensively that large parts of the city were devastated.

Varying estimates of deaths range from 7,000 to 40,000.

To date, Israel has yet to be blamed for the deaths.
