Hate Crime

Should hate be a crime? The First Amendment states that, “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”

I would think that “prohibiting the free exercise thereof” would mean that hate crimes involving free speech would be ruled unconstitutional. But then again I am assuming we live in a sane world.

I dislike intensely a few members of my own family. Does that mean I’m a criminal?
