500 years ago, oil was not a resource. Neither was uranium. People around at the time didn’t know how to use them. Things that weren’t resources became resources. Our ability to use new resources made old resources obsolete. Now, no modern home needs to burn wood for heat, for example. The Stone Age didn’t come to an end because we ran out of stones.
