Cash for clunkers

This comment was on a Yahoo news story…

“The idiot who came up with this program should be drawn and quartered. If the government would simply maintain logical lending policies in the U.S. none of this would have been necessary. The government should also have stayed out of the automobile, (and banking), business. When we had the dot-com crash there was no government intervention and we moved on just fine. If you are going to have this type of program – the moronic requirement that the junkers be destroyed – is beyond belief. If you are going to have a government giveaway program how about if they had all been donated to homeless shelters, veterans’ programs, even local, state and federal government agencies since the government paid $8,000 for each of them. Guess what? Even though they were junkers, they all had value that could have helped many organizations!”

  1. I never understood that program. I drive a 40 year old VW. It wouldn’t be eligible but I would never junk it. It’s the cheapest car in the World to maintain and keep running. It doesn’t weigh enough to even wear out tires. You only ever replace them when the rubber starts to rot. The set I got on now is eight years old and good to go.
